Detailed prep steps
- 1
Bag opened food and medications
Anything not in its original manufacturer's seal needs to be sealed in Nylofume® bags or removed. That means opened food, pet food, medications, and tobacco. We provide the bags.
- 2
Sealed bottles and cans stay
If the original manufacturer's seal is intact (a 2-liter soda, an unopened bottle of wine), the item can stay as-is. Visually inspect each bottle.
- 3
Wine on its side
All corked wine bottles need to be stored horizontally to keep the cork wet during the gas exposure period.
- 4
Cosmetics are fine
Lipstick, externally applied lotions, and ointments don't need to be bagged or removed.
- 5
Double-bag and seal
Put one Nylofume bag inside another, fill, then seal each bag separately by twisting, doubling over, and securing with tape or a twist tie. Press gently to confirm there are no air leaks.
- 6
Provide access
Cars, cabinets, safes, and locked rooms need to be open, or leave us the keys. We have to get inside to inspect and aerate per label requirements.
- 7
Plants and shrubs
Cut back or remove anything within 18 inches of the structure so we can seal the tent. Water plants the day before to protect their roots.
- 8
Awnings, trellises, fences
These can interfere with tenting. We'll walk the property with you to plan around them.
Only Vikane® gas fumigant has a 50-year track record of 100% drywood termite elimination. Vikane® is a federally restricted-use pesticide; we always read and follow label directions.
